What the heck happened to waterbeds?
In the 70s and 80s they were EVERYWHERE. We used to go into the furniture stores and hope that every bed we sat on was a waterbed. What the hell?

American politics has always grabbed our attention - and the current president more than ever. We get tons of questions about the president, the supreme court, and other topics related to American politics - but often the same ones over and over again. Our users often get tired of seeing them, so we've created a megathread for questions! Here, users interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!
All top-level comments should be questions asked in good faith - other comments and loaded questions will get removed. All the usual rules of the sub remain in force here, so be nice to each other - you can disagree with someone's opinion, but don't make it personal.

When Russia invaded Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Czechia, Spain, and Italy opened their borders to Ukrainians.
During the Syrian Civil War, Turkey welcomed Syrians fleeing their country.
So why hasn’t Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the other Arab states opened their doors to Palestinians who wish to flee the Gaza Strip?

My girlfriend told me that she was going out to eat with some friends. No problem. I ordered a pizza for dinner and started watching King of the Hill by myself. She comes back in after her night out and sees the pizza box on our Livingroom table.
She opens the box, sees that its empty and calls me a fat ass for eating the entire box. I said "you're one to talk". She says, "I can't believe you just said that" and walked away from me while I tried to explain that it wasn't a real dig at her weight. It's the next day and she's not talking to me.
It was just a quick comeback without thinking.

One thing I've never understood is how prevalent cheating is in society because... how are you attracting that many people in that first place? I've had two people show interest in me in the last 7 years

Like everytime I’ve seen someone pour wine in wine glasses, they pour like 1/4 of the cup and keep refilling. Why wouldn’t you just fill the whole cup? (Coming from someone who doesn’t drink)

I would guess not since there is significantly less American to China immigration but I am just wondering if there’s any other country equivalents to Chinatown.

I remember in like 2010 being totally absorbed by everything I came across. I don’t know if it’s just nostalgia or the fact when you’re a kid everyone’s more exciting - but compared to 2026 I’m trying to figure out what the equivalent is for kids nowadays.
Like everyday id be playing a different, unique and creative flash game, or searching a new hobby and finding a very interesting forum with a genuine community waiting, a good dozen people responding to any question actually enjoying the curiosity of me as a beginner. Am I just not looking in the right places? Do kids still do this?

I repeatedly see posts across social medias of people being able to recall their teachers from elementary school or the one teacher they had for a science class in their first year of high school. For the life of me, I cannot remember even 50% of my teachers names. Do I just have a bad memory or do you also forget most of your teachers names?

Not intended to stir up any discussion on what happened there, there's enough threads for that. I'm just uneducated as to why, the geography doesn't make sense to me.

The fact that generations of people lived in a time period before me with different clothes and beliefs and societal expectations is so strange to me. And these different time periods of the past are something that can never be truly experienced again. It's as if there's been thousands of different worlds that have existed in the past because things always change. My parents grew up in a completely different time and so did their parents and so on. I was born in 2000 and even the 90s seem like a different time. As we grow older, most of us become elderly in a time period that is completely foreign, but we don't notice the changes as much as time goes by.
The people of the past seem so different from us today and I'm always blown away when I see a colorized black and white photo because it makes me realize that they lived in a world of color just like I do and they felt the same things I've felt, except we only ever see photos and footage that show moments that were meant to be captured, which don't show who a person truly is.
Maybe I'm just having an existential crisis. I just watched a documentary with lots of old footage and it got me thinking.

Just saw a video of an aircraft called the mantra in Mexico, that supposedly exists despite military denying the existent of the aircraft. The video was obviously a fake and cgi with ai, but I think there has been a few books by people like Tom Clancy who have had shed a little bit of light on conspiracies which would later on turn out to be true.
Now I’m just wondering what lies/secrets have been exposed in America over time whether it be politics, military, corporate, religion, etc, to shed more light on transparency
Inb4 this is my last post and I disappear off the face of the planet. It’s been real.
Edit: HOLLLYY MOLLLLLYYYY WHAT THE FFFFUUUJCCKKKKKKKKKK. AHHHHHHHHH

What happened to the "ring-around-the-collar" scourge that gripped the nation in the 80's? Do kids these days even know about it? Do they study it in school?

Hi everyone. I live in South Korea and I’m Asian. I’m currently planning a trip to the United States.
The main purpose of my visit is to pay my respects at the graves of deceased members of my favorite band, Slipknot, which are located in Iowa.
However, after seeing recent news about the U.S. from Korea, I’ve started to feel a bit anxious, so I wanted to ask for advice here.
As someone who is visibly Asian, would traveling to the U.S. at this time be risky? My biggest concern is the recent ICE-related issues that have been widely discussed.
Slipknot has had a huge impact on my life, and paying my respects to Paul Gray and Joey Jordison is one of my bucket list goals.
However, if this truly seems like a foolish or unsafe idea right now, I’m willing to postpone the trip.

Hi! I'm 18F, and my friend is 19M. One thing I noticed is that he talks A LOT about people who are "chopped".
He often sends me posts/TikToks with people who don't look attractive and remark how they ugly they are. Like, at least once a day. Or, he'd talk about how frustrated he is about ugly people and their existence. He's the photographers for one of his clubs, and he once admitted that he didn't like photographing the members because they're "all so ugly." He once said he's a shallow person, so theres that.
Why is this? People can't control how their base genetics. And so what if they don't feel like being fashionable? As long as they don't stink and they're nice people, why point out if they're ugly?
I wonder if he's projecting, because he is very skinny, and has a face that doesn't match the male beauty standard (I think his face is amazing, but my friends think he's ugly). His hair is also thinning, which I get the vibe he's insecure about..
